Drawing inspiration from a subject: every composer does this. Capturing its deep quintessence and sealing it into the very construction of the music: that is Yves Ruhlmann’s own gesture — a signature, in the full sense. This alchemy of substance and form belongs to only a tiny minority of composers: it cannot be improvised, it is built on a lifetime of craft and research. It is by that demand that excellence is recognised.
In substance — the composition can meet an identity, a history, an intention, an emotion, a trajectory, a heritage, a passage, a transformation: a person, a family, a house, a company, a place, a project.
In the architecture — Yves Ruhlmann’s language makes it possible to work with numbers, their encoding, their musical translation, the relationships between numbers, sounds, forms and colours. The singularity of this work: the material of the project can enter not only the intention of the music, but its construction, through architectural and numerical signatures. It is this signature that makes the difference between incidental music and a work in the full sense.

A dedicated creation is not necessarily a Transe Symphonic. One can be commissioned when it matches the project; but Yves Ruhlmann’s craft unfolds in other forms according to the material, the commissioner, the brief, the artistic direction, the image, the destination and the production means.
With broad autonomy — the commissioner conveys their history, their identity, their intention, their material and their context; Yves freely develops the compositional response.
Under strong artistic direction — Yves knows how to work with a director, an art director, a producer or a commissioner who gives directions, constraints and feedback.
Within a dedicated creation, dialogue is part of the creation: the commissioner conveys their material, takes part in the defining exchanges, responds at the planned stages of the process. The final artistic decision remains the composer’s.
1. Meeting — an exchange about the project, its quintessence, its history, its intention, its constraints, its use and its schedule.
2. Orientation — determining the musical form, the degree of autonomy or direction, the production ambition and the general conditions.
3. Proposal and quotation — every dedicated creation is by quotation.
4. Possible prefiguration — where relevant, an unfinalised orchestrated mock-up presents the heart of the composition before its full development.
5. Development — the composition is developed to the agreed final form.
The musical prefiguration
When the prefiguration is the object of a separate, invoiced preparatory assignment, its amount is deducted at 100 % from the price of the complete commission if the latter is concluded within six months. The prefiguration delivered is an unfinalised orchestrated mock-up. After six months, the project, the price and the composer’s availability are reviewed.
