Self-taught in spirit, Yves Ruhlmann passed through some of Europe’s great musical institutions — the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he attended the film music class of Luis Bacalov, the Conservatorio Licinio Refice in Frosinone, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon — and was welcomed as a guest at the Académie de France à Rome – Villa Médicis (2014). For more than twenty years he has been writing for orchestra, choir, stage and screen. His full path and collaborations: biography · press kit (PDF).

His path includes substantial training in music for the screen and real practice of the relationship between music, image and narrative: he composed the original scores of two films by Claude Aubert — De Raptu Proserpinae (2013) and Curiosa Pandora (2016). This experience grounds his ability to work both with great artistic autonomy and under outside direction — that of a film director, an art director or a producer. Today it extends into interactive worlds: Video games & interactive worlds.

His true path began beyond these studies: a long research into musical language as a living language, carrying meaning — where numbers, sounds, forms and colours each bear a meaning of their own. From this work were born the compositional foundations that characterise his work. Musique Code Cantique, a method of translation that makes the song of the word audible. Transe Symphonic, a sound cathedral in service of consciousness. The Living Scale, a natural tuning through which living music comes into being. Three inseparable pillars — the compositional writing proper to Symphoniya.

Transe Symphonic is a major manifestation of this language; it is not the limit of his craft. Depending on the project, Yves Ruhlmann composes in other orchestral, instrumental or vocal forms — for the concert hall, for the screen or for other destinations.

His first Transe Symphonic work, Peace and Love — Transe Symphonic, was composed in 2022, its choral parts recorded in Sofia. In 2024 he composed, recorded and conducted Love and Gratitude — Transe Symphonic with the Sofia Session Orchestra & Choir — a work dedicated to the research of Dr Masaru Emoto, presented in Japan at the World Water Festival before some two thousand people in the open air.

In 2023 he founded Symphoniya in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, to give this work the coherent universe it called for. He remains its founder; the universe goes beyond him, and is meant to welcome, beyond him, whatever belongs to its intention.

Eighteen years of research into the genesis of musical language are set down in a forthcoming book, 1093, la Genèse du langage musical — the first volume of a larger written work.
